The 4-0 Fighting Irish Keep Rolling!
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are officially 4-0.
No. 3 Notre Dame traveled to West Lafayette on Saturday afternoon and left no doubt, dominating Purdue 49-10 at Ross-Ade Stadium. The Irish completely took over the game in the second quarter, turning a competitive opening period into a blowout before halftime.
The win marked Notre Dame's 14th straight victory and gave the Irish a perfect record heading into October for the first time since 2021.
A Dominant First Half
Notre Dame's defense set the tone immediately.
Bryce Young recorded a sack on Purdue's opening play, and the Irish defense consistently pressured quarterback Ryan Browne throughout the afternoon. Purdue's offense managed only 90 yards in the first half, including just 12 rushing yards.
Notre Dame eventually broke through offensively when CJ Carr found Micah Gilbert for a touchdown.
From there, the floodgates opened.
Aneyas Williams ripped off a 22-yard touchdown run, Carr added a rushing touchdown, and Bryce Young forced a fumble that Drayk Bowen scooped up and returned 15 yards for a touchdown.
By halftime, Notre Dame had built a 35-0 lead.
The Irish outgained Purdue 273-90 during the opening two quarters and completely controlled both sides of the football.
CJ Carr Continues to Impress
CJ Carr once again showed why expectations surrounding him continue to rise.
Carr finished the afternoon 14-of-22 for 237 yards and three touchdown passes, while adding another touchdown on the ground. He also threw his first interception of the season early in the second half.
Carr's ability to make plays both through the air and on the ground has become a major part of Notre Dame's offensive identity.
He has now accounted for a rushing and passing touchdown in back-to-back games.
And while the interception was a blemish, Carr's overall performance was another strong step forward.
The Irish Defense Was Relentless
If there was one thing that stood out above everything else, it was Notre Dame's defensive line.
Bryce Young finished with two sacks, including the strip-sack that resulted in Bowen's defensive touchdown. Armel Mukam and Boubacar Traore also recorded sacks, while the Irish consistently forced Browne out of rhythm.
Purdue finished with just 218 total yards.
That's the type of defensive performance that can carry a team deep into the season.
Notre Dame didn't simply stop Purdue from scoring — it made the Boilermakers work for virtually every yard.
Aneyas Williams Provides the Ground Game
Aneyas Williams continued to give Notre Dame another weapon on offense.
Williams carried the ball 14 times for 80 yards and a touchdown, helping the Irish establish the running game early. Notre Dame finished with 177 rushing yards, its highest total of the season.
Having a reliable rushing attack alongside Carr gives Notre Dame another dimension that opposing defenses have to prepare for.
The Second Half Wasn't Perfect
Despite the dominant final score, Notre Dame did have some things to clean up.
Carr threw his first interception of the season on the opening drive of the second half, and Purdue eventually managed to put together a few scoring opportunities.
The Boilermakers finally got on the board with a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Notre Dame responded, however, and continued adding to the lead.
Carr later connected with Cooper Flanagan for a touchdown before the Irish reserves took over. Noah Grubbs then threw his first career touchdown pass to Matt Jeffery, giving Notre Dame its final touchdown of the afternoon.
Purdue added a touchdown with six seconds remaining, but by then the game had been decided for hours.
What This Means for Notre Dame
Notre Dame is now 4-0, and the Irish have looked increasingly impressive as the season has progressed.
The Purdue game was especially encouraging because Notre Dame dominated in multiple ways.
The offense produced 444 total yards. The defense held Purdue to 218. Carr accounted for four touchdowns. Williams established the run. And the defensive front consistently overwhelmed Purdue's offensive line.
There is still plenty of football left, but Notre Dame is putting together the kind of performances that make the Irish look like a legitimate national contender.
What's Next?
Notre Dame now turns its attention to North Carolina, with the Irish traveling to Chapel Hill next Saturday.
After opening the season 4-0, Notre Dame enters October undefeated and carrying plenty of momentum.
The biggest question now isn't whether this team can win games.
It's just how far this Notre Dame team can go.
Four games down. Four wins. And the Irish are just getting started.
