Top 25 After Week 5 !!

Week 6 Rankings — Oregon Has Everything to Prove

College football is officially entering the part of the season where every Saturday starts to mean a little more.

Week 5 gave us statement wins, major upsets and plenty of movement around the Top 25. Missouri destroyed Florida 45–17, Alabama dominated Mississippi State, and the top of the country remained crowded with undefeated teams.

But this week is where the rankings can really start to separate.

My biggest change is Missouri moving to #12, while Mississippi State moves up to #13, Florida drops to #15, Tennessee sits at #16 and Oregon falls to #18.

And at #18, Oregon has one of the biggest games of the week.

THE BIGGEST RANKING GAME: #18 OREGON vs. #21 UCLA

This is the game I will be watching closest when it comes to next week's rankings.

Oregon is 3-1.

UCLA is 4-0.

And both teams are ranked.

The Ducks are #18 in the SYGBLOGSSPORTS poll, while UCLA sits at #21. That makes Saturday's matchup in Eugene about much more than just another Big Ten game.

Oregon has everything to gain.

If Oregon beats an undefeated, ranked UCLA team, the Ducks immediately have an argument to move back into the Top 15.

A win would give Oregon another major résumé victory and make #18 feel way too low.

But if Oregon loses?

That's where things get interesting.

A 3-2 Oregon team would have some serious questions to answer, and the Ducks could potentially fall out of the Top 20 or even out of the Top 25 depending on how the rest of the weekend plays out.

That's why I'm emphasizing this game so heavily in this week's poll.

Oregon's ranking is on the line.

This is a prove-it game.

Win, and Oregon can start climbing.

Lose, and the Ducks could be looking at a completely different ranking next week.

UCLA enters the game undefeated and has already established itself as one of the biggest surprises of the season. Oregon has the home-field advantage, but UCLA has an opportunity to make one of the biggest statements of the weekend.

 THE SYGBLOGSSPORTS TOP 25

1. Notre Dame — 5-0

The Irish remain #1 in my rankings. CJ Carr and this offense continue to make plays, and Notre Dame has yet to lose.

2. Texas — 4-0

Texas stays at #2. The Longhorns now head into the Red River Rivalry with Oklahoma, where one bad afternoon could completely shake up the top of the poll.

3. Georgia — 5-0

Georgia has been dominant and now gets its biggest test of the season against Alabama.

4. Miami — 5-0

The Hurricanes remain undefeated after a dominant win over Clemson. Miami continues to look like a legitimate playoff contender.

5. Ohio State — 4-1

The Buckeyes stay inside the Top 5. Jeremiah Smith and the Ohio State offense continue to make a major impact.

6. Alabama — 5-0

Alabama destroyed Mississippi State 56-23 and now gets Georgia. This is the Tide's chance to prove they're one of the best teams in the country.

7. Indiana — 5-0

The defending national champions continue rolling. Indiana handled Rutgers 47-15 and remains undefeated.

8. BYU — 4-0

BYU continues to quietly build one of the better résumés in the country.

9. Ole Miss — 3-1

The Rebels remain in the Top 10 despite their Week 4 loss.

10. LSU — 4-1

LSU remains inside the Top 10 after dominating McNeese State.

11. Texas Tech — 5-0

The Red Raiders are undefeated and continue climbing toward the national conversation.

12. Missouri — 4-1

This is the big move.

Missouri dominated Florida 45-17, and that kind of performance deserves respect.

The Tigers jumped 11 spots in the AP poll to #14, but I'm going even higher.

Now they have to prove it.

13. Mississippi State — 4-1

Mississippi State takes a hit after the Alabama loss but stays comfortably inside the Top 15.

14. Utah — 4-0

Utah remains undefeated and continues to climb.

15. Florida — 4-1

Florida drops after getting completely overwhelmed by Missouri.

One loss doesn't erase what the Gators had accomplished, but losing 45-17 means they can't stay ahead of teams that are playing better football right now.

16. Tennessee — 4-1

Tennessee stays inside the Top 20 but has another important opportunity this week against Arkansas.

17. Oklahoma State — 3-1

The Cowboys remain ranked, but they'll need more quality wins as the season moves along.

18. Oregon — 3-1

This is the most important ranking on the entire list this week.

Oregon isn't #18 because I don't believe in the Ducks.

I'm putting them here because Saturday is their chance to prove exactly where they belong.

Beat undefeated #21 UCLA and Oregon could shoot right back toward the Top 15.

Lose, and the Ducks could drop significantly.

This is a must-watch game for the SYGBLOGSSPORTS rankings.

19. USC — 5-1

USC stays ranked but has a massive challenge against Penn State.

20. Iowa — 4-1

The Hawkeyes remain in the Top 20 and will look to bounce back this week.

21. UCLA — 4-0

UCLA is undefeated and deserves plenty of respect.

Now the Bruins get their biggest test yet.

A win over Oregon could send UCLA flying up this poll.

22. Houston — 4-1

Houston remains ranked after a strong start to the season.

23. Boise State — 4-1

The Broncos remain in the Top 25.

24. SMU — 4-1

SMU stays ranked but needs another quality win to move higher.

25. Pittsburgh — 5-0

Pitt remains undefeated and holds onto the final spot.

WEEK 6 GAMES THAT COULD CHANGE THE POLL

#2 Georgia @ #6 Alabama

Game of the Week.

Two undefeated SEC powers finally collide. This could have major implications for the top five.

#1 Texas vs. Oklahoma

The Red River Rivalry.

Texas is undefeated, but Oklahoma has an opportunity to completely flip the rankings with an upset. Texas has won the previous two meetings.

#18 Oregon vs. #21 UCLA

The most important game for the SYGBLOGSSPORTS rankings.

Oregon needs this win.

UCLA wants to prove the undefeated start is real.

A win could send either team flying up the rankings.

#12 Missouri vs. Texas A&M

Missouri has earned its new ranking.

Now comes the hard part: defending it.

#16 Tennessee @ Arkansas

Tennessee needs to avoid a slip and keep itself in the Top 20 conversation.

#19 USC @ Penn State

A major Big Ten résumé opportunity for USC.

Notre Dame vs. Stanford

Notre Dame gets another opportunity to remain undefeated and protect the #1 ranking.

 BIGGEST RISERS

Missouri — #12

The Tigers are the biggest riser in my poll after destroying Florida.

Mississippi State — #13

Despite the Alabama loss, Mississippi State remains ahead of Florida because of the overall body of work.

UCLA — #21

The Bruins are undefeated and now get the opportunity to make a massive jump.

 BIGGEST FALLERS

Florida — #15

The 45-17 loss to Missouri was simply too much to ignore.

Oregon — #18

This isn't a punishment ranking.

It's a prove-it ranking.

Oregon gets a chance to fix it immediately against UCLA.

 BOTTOM LINE

The Top 5 remains strong, but Week 6 could create some serious movement.

Georgia-Alabama could shake up the championship picture.

Texas-Oklahoma could change the top of the rankings.

Missouri will try to prove #12 isn't too high.

But for me, Oregon-UCLA is the game to watch from a rankings perspective.

Oregon is sitting at #18 with an undefeated #21 UCLA team coming into Eugene.

Win, and the Ducks should move up.

Lose, and Oregon could fall hard.

That's what makes college football rankings so much fun — every Saturday gives teams a chance to prove us wrong.
